After reading [Doug Short's] recent article on GDP components, I decided to look into changes in GDP composition on a percentage basis over time to see what is might tell us about changes in the state/fate of our economy. The following table and graphs show the components of GDP as a percentage of the total GDP (nominal) since 1947, when the government first began publishing quarterly data.
