Advisor Perspectives, a leading publisher and ranked as the #1 eNewsletter for financial advisors by the Erdos & Morgan “FAMOUS” Study (2019-2022) has announced its Venerated Voices™ awards for commentaries published in Q2 2023. Rankings were issued in the following categories:
- Top 10 Venerated Voices™ by Commentary
- Top 25 Venerated Voices™ by Firm
- Top 25 Venerated Voices™ by Author
- Top 25 Venerated Voices™ by Firm – Frequently Posted
- Top 25 Venerated Voices™ by Author – Frequently Posted
The frequently posted categories require a minimum of three posts quarterly, whereas the first three categories require only one post quarterly. We added the two frequently posted categories to highlight and reward those authors and firms who post most often.
The most popular topics in Q2 2023 among all commentaries were related to Fed policy, inflation, artificial intelligence, portfolio construction, recession risk, and the market rally.
Leading the Top 25 Venerated Voices™ by Firm category was Research Affiliates of California, followed by Hussman Funds of Maryland. In third place was Evensky & Katz/Foldes Financial Wealth Management of Florida.
Among individual commentators, the most widely read was James Long of F.A.S.T. Graphs. In second place was James Montier of GMO followed by Campbell Harvey of Research Affiliates in third place.
The most-widely read commentary in the second quarter of 2023, published on May 24th, was There is Something Rotten in China by Steven Vanneli of Knowledge Leaders Capital. Vanneli discussed why the Chinese economy is weakening. He validated that outlook through several pieces of evidence: the consistent underperformance of Chinese stocks in comparison to bonds over the last few years, the weaking of the Chinese yuan relative to the U.S. dollar, and the fall of copper prices, which could indicate a downturn in the country’s GDP growth estimates. Vanneli explained:
In China, stocks have underperformed government bonds by about 50% since the beginning of 2021. This suggests there could be something rotten going on underneath the surface of the Chinese economy. Debt issues, housing issues, demographic issues, and geopolitical issues all could be weighing on sentiment toward Chinese equities and growth.
John Deere & Caterpillar: Two Companies with Solid Potential took second place, written by James Long of F.A.S.T. Graphs and published on June 13. Long detailed the business models of the two companies and explained why they are both solid buys. He discussed that both companies are undervalued and offer upside potential. Strong tailwinds, such as the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, make Caterpillar’s long-term growth prospects favorable, while John Deere’s technological advancements coupled with the never-ending, constantly growing demand for food will keep the company at the forefront for the long haul.
In third place was New Bull Market? It's Different This Time. by Lance Roberts of Real Investment Advice, published on June 23. Roberts discussed the notion of a new bull market and highlighted the importance of understanding the distinction between corrections and a bear market. He revisited claims made in August 2022, declaring a new bull market that turned out to be premature as the market went on to set new lows a few months later in October. Roberts argued that the current declaration of a bull market is more substantiated as the technical backdrop is different from last year’s. The market is trading above its 200-day moving average with a “bullish golden cross,” suggesting the market will continue to rise in the coming months. But he cautioned that the recent rally and deviations from longer-term moving averages will likely lead to a near term correction.

In Q2 2023, over 500 such commentaries were published and made available through a daily newsletter, Research Perspectives, which the company emails to its subscribers.
Venerated Voices™ rankings were determined by the number of unique readers of each commentary, using data provided electronically by the third-party web analytics service Google Analytics.
