Housing Starts Rise 5.7% in April

In April, housing starts rose to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.360 million, falling short of the forecasted rate of 1.420 million. This marks a 5.7% increase from March and a 0.6% decline compared to one year ago.

Privately‐owned housing starts in April were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,360,000. This is 5.7 percent (±11.0 percent)* above the revised March estimate of 1,287,000, but is 0.6 percent (±12.3 percent)* below the April 2023 rate of 1,368,000. Single‐family housing starts in April were at a rate of 1,031,000; this is 0.4 percent (±9.5 percent)* below the revised March figure of 1,035,000.
